A Let Down

So I went to see The Spirit today with my cousins and my sister, and I was pretty disappointed. I guess I had high expectations because the trailers made it look awesome, but the movie was full of stock characters found in every other hero film and the final battle was so anticlimactic. You've got you stereotypical good girl gone bad because daddy died and your super sexy hero who's an immortal lady killer (not literally but charismatically) who doesn't understand why he can't die and is searching for answers. Then you've got the saintly doctor who sticks around for the hero even though he cheats on her in her face. It all is very Batman meets Hancock meets Sin City in a broken blender. My cousin liked it but I think that had more to do with the fact that he got ultra excited every time he saw Scarlett Johansson. Gabriel Macht was pretty hot as The Spirit, and his voice was ultra sexy but even that couldn't save the film from reaching new heights of lame. I'd only ever seen him in American Outlaws and A Love Song For Bobby Long where he plays secondary characters, so I was impressed by his leading man sex appeal in The Spirit. I guess I could have watched him in Because I Said So but eck! no way. No amount of good looks in a guy could get me to sit through that Mandy Moore disaster( If you couldn't tell, I don't like the girl- unless she gets ripped on like in Saved! or Princess Diaries). Anyway back to the subject at hand, the fight scenes were ok, but overall the film left you wanting more. The characters were weak, but their was an element of girl power to it with all the female characters being tough vixens who could hold their own- still not enough. It tries to be Sin City but it falls 20 yards short. Final comments- I'm glad I went to a matinee paid for by my parents. Save your money and watch it online or wait till it hits the dollar theaters. Go see Australia instead if you want to see a film worth 9 bucks. 5 out of 10.

Happy Christmakwanzakah!

Evening everyone! I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas/Kwanzaa/Hanukkah or just an awesome day for those of you who don't celebrate a holiday. I had an interesting Christmas to say the least yet a good one all the same. I wasn't really expecting anything because I hadn't asked for anything in particular. I didn't make a list or verbally request anything. I guess I figured since I'm going to France that I shouldn't ask for anything because my study abroad program is pretty pricey. To my surprise, though, my parents got me a Wii! I couldn't believe it! That was the last thing I thought my parents would get me. It was pretty cool. I've been playing Wii sports all day, and I feel like I participated in a triathlon. Bowling and Boxing are my forte. Now I'm taking a break and watching season 1 of Gossip Girl with my sister. I love this show! I never get tired of it. Seriously I don't think there is any other show that I can watch over and over again in one month or one year for that matter. If you are a GG fan holla back!!

So I didn't get much sleep last night because I finally finished getting caught up on True Blood- an awesome show about vampires that comes on HBO. If you're missing it, you're lame (unless you're underage cause it definitely is not for kids). Now I have to wait until the summer for new episodes. Thank the gods for France- I don't know how I would get by otherwise. I also finished (drum roll please) reading Breaking Dawn! I am finally done with the Twilight series! It feels like it took me forever. I must admit the ending was pretty anticlimactic and lame. I kinda had an idea about what was going to happen thanks to accidentally reading a newspaper a week after the book came out (Thanks Newsweek-not). So I thought I'd be bummed about reaching the end, but I'm actually relieved and ready to move on. Now if only Clive Barker would finish Abarat 3. I have yet to find someone who is as in love with the series as me so please let me know if you share my passion.

So about France. I'm leaving in a week and a half and I'm trying to cram in as much as I can. I have a bunch of friends I need to see. I need to get caught up on my Netflix and get my money's worth. I really want to finish reading Inkheart before the movie comes out two days after I leave - the irony. I've only been waiting for this movie to come out since my junior year of high school and they decide to release it when I'm gone. Well, it is a German book, so hopefully they show it in France as well.
Must see movies before I leave:
The Spirit
The Curious Case of Banjamin Button

Bedtime Stories
Revolutionary Road

Seven Pounds

Slumdog Millionaire
Doubt
The Reader

Defiance

Quantum of Solace

and I'd love to see Australia again.
So many films, so little time. If any of you have seen any of the films on my to-do list give me your opinion. I don't to waste my time. Well, I have a ton of shopping to do on the morrow. I'll catch up with you guys later!

Oh the feelings we feel!

Ok I dunno why but I'm in a bit of a funky mood. Its the melancholy before the excitement returns. I guess I just can't believe I'm really going ya know? Its really happening. I've been waiting 7 years for this and its finally here. Its not a dream or some story I wrote. This is my life, and I am going to France. I'll be away from my school and my friends for 8 months. 8 months!!! That is a crazy long time. I'm used to being away from my family for long periods of time so I'm over that, but I guess I hadn't wrapped my head around the fact that I won't return to the world I've known these past 2 1/2 years till next fall until now. And when I return it will be the last fall of my undergrad experience! Isn't that crazy! I can remember my first day when I moved in to Loyola. Everything is happening so fast. I'm not worried about not having fun in France. There's no doubt about that. I guess I'm not really sure what I'm worried and nervous about, but I knowthere is something. I'll let you know once I've figured it out for myself. In the meantime, here's a video to express my feelings about these past few days and these next few weeks. Check it out!

Salut!!!

So this is my first blog post, and I'm really excited about it! I decided that since I am making a major trip to France next semester that I should chronicle my adventure for myself and my friends. This way I can keep everyone up to speed on what's going on and have something to look back on later!
So, I just got home from school last night after a nightmarish final. I'm so glad to be done with school at Loyola for a while. Oh for those of you newbies, I'm a Junior at Loyola University in Chicago. Sounds fun? It has its moments. The people are better than the curriculum, let me tell ya. Anyway, a ton of my friends helped me permanently move out of my dorm yesterday. It was so nice of them, I wanted to hug them forever. I'm really going to miss them. This isn't goodbye, its just a 'see ya later' type thing. Only, 'later' is 8 months from now. Wow, that's forever from now! As sad as it is to part from the people you love, I'm super excited about studying in France! Its going to be a blast! And hopefully I'll come back fluent and all Frenchified! -yup, new word, yay me! So, three weeks till departure. I've got tons of books to read, movies to watch, and people to see before I go.
I just watched this French film called
Water Lillies. It was really interesting. I guess you could call it a coming-of-age love story. There were so many moments where I cringed and freaked out because of some of the characters' choices. Its basically about this girl Marie who falls in love with this synchronize swimmer named Florine. Everyone thinks Florine is a slut, but she opens up to Marie and admits that she's a virgin who just pretends to be slutty because it's expected of her. Weird right? Its gets worse. They become bff (but not so much forever) and Florine asks Marie to pop her cherry for her before she has sex with some guy because she doesn't want him to find out that she's never done it before. It was crazy!! Marie and her original best friend (known as the town fatty-sad) do some crazy things for the people they love. The story is a bit of a downer, and I didn't really get the ending. All the same, its worth watching at least once. The music was tight! Now I'm reading Ironside by Holly Black, the sequal to Tithe. Its pretty good so far. I still need to finish Breaking Dawn- my friend Lauren will kill me if I don't! I just can't bring myself to do it. It'll happen eventually. I'll let you know how they both go! Yay for my first blog post! Make comments please! I'd love to hear from you guys. Peace ;)
